The Heart Mender - Andy Andrews

This book was provided to me by Thomas Nelson. It is a complimentary copy of this book.

I really wanted to like this book. I truly did. However, it just starts out way too slow and continues to drag on. I had a really hard time finishing it and I was left feeling unfulfilled and disappointed.

The Heart Mender is a story of second chances. It takes place during World War II and involves a widowed woman named Helen and a German soldier named Josef. I did enjoy the characters, but the story just wasn't as good as I had hoped. Definitely a disappointment to me.

Never Let You Go - Erin Healy

This book was provided to me by Thomas Nelson. It is a complimentary copy of this book.

Never Let You Go is the first book I've ever read by Erin Healy. After reading the synopsis of the book, I thought I'd give this one a chance, even though I'm not big on fiction with religious themes and undertones. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.

The book does feel a little preachy at certain points, but it's never over the top or so annoying that you want to stop reading. I did enjoy the supernatural element more than anything else, being a fan of horror and thriller type novels.

Lexi and her daughter Molly have gone seven years without Grant, the husband and father who walked out of their lives one day, never to be seen or heard from again...until one day when that all changes.

Bad people from Lexi's past have returned and one of them wants to make her daughter pay for her sins. Will she have the faith to make it through the harrowing ordeal? Just read it and find out.

Saint Patrick

This book was provided to me byThomas Nelson. It is a complimentary copy of this book.

Saint Patrick is a short book, but it's also pretty interesting. It's basically the life story of Saint Patrick and I actually found it fascinating.

Saint Patrick was sold into slavery as a teenager and worked as a shepherd. Eventually he escaped and made it back home. Once home, he began ministering and baptizing thousands of people.

This book tells the story of how Saint Patrick overcame his terrible situation as a slave and became a brave soul who was able to heed the call of God and help many others.

Not exactly the type of book I'd read again, but it was definitely an interesting read.

The Map by David Murrow

This book was provided to me byThomas Nelson. It is a complimentary copy of this book.

I read this book out of pure curiosity. I'm not really a religious person, nor do I read things with religious themes. Sadly, I couldn't even get into this book and it took me forever to finish it. Absolutely boring to me and provided me no insight into anything. Now I know why I don't read stuff like this.

They were trying to find The Map that was thought to be an old parchment paper but what they found out was something entirely different. The Map was in the Bible and David was shown where in a basement of an old monastery.

This book The Map teaches about how Jesus walked and how men in our own day should follow Him.

I found it to be monotonous and I just didn't like this book at all.

The Farm - Scott Nicholson

This book was my first by this author, and even though it was decent, I just wasn't very excited about it. Typical horror cliches can be found in this book. I think the only thing that scared me about this was my fear of goats(childhood incident that traumatized me). There are some scenes with goats and other farm animals and that bothered me/creeped me out more than anything. Decent book, but not my cup of tea.

Scissors by Ray Garton

So I recently read Scissors, the newest book by Ray Garton. Let me tell you, this book is a thrill ride into madness. It's definitely not for the weak or easily disturbed. It's not horribly over the top with violence, but it does latch on and won't let go until the very end. This is one you will not want to put down.

Stuart Mullond seems like your normal, average, everyday guy. He's got a job he hates, an ex-wife he hates, a new girlfriend, and a son who ignores him. Stuart also happens to be paranoid and slightly delusional.

As a child, Stuart's overly religious mother aided in putting him through an operation done by Dr. Furgeson. This operation traumatized him so badly that he now believes the doctor has come back to do the same thing to his son.

Stuart begins seeing the doctor everywhere he goes and each sighting is accompanied by the snick-snick of scissors. Does this mean Stuart is crazy or is the nasty doctor really coming for his son?

Scissors is a fast-paced adrenaline rush that takes over and doesn't let go until the very end. With each chapter, you begin to feel as though your spiraling out of control right along with Stuart. And when you finally do discover what's really going on, it hits you like a ton of bricks.

Scissors is definitely one to read if you like your horror dipped in insanity and sprinkled with a healthy dose of love, loss, and the power of human nature.

Pick up a copy and see for yourself just how awesome this book really is.

Book Reviews by Jazz

Ok, so this is my new blog. I kind of gave up on my horror movie blog because I tend to read more than I watch movies. So starting later today, I will be reviewing some recent books I have read. I'll try to update each day, but I can't guarantee anything. :) So I hope you enjoy my reviews and maybe find something new to read.
